Ford social plan and severance pay

The IG Metall management, in conjunction with the state government, wore down colleagues with vague hope in the search for ever new investors to take over the plant. When this dissolved into an air bubble, the leaders of the BR announced, “now we only have to negotiate a social collective agreement.” In the second week of February, the management of Ford, IG Metall management and BR agreed on a social collective agreement, which is to come into force on 29.2.2024.

In order not to mess with the workforce, Ford has had the contract cost a lot. It includes: Ford wants to pay severance pay: Each employee should receive a basic amount of either 40,000 or 70,000 euros, depending on whether they joined the company before or after 2006. In addition, he is paid his salary up to the notice period and, depending on age and length of employment, a certain number of double gross monthly payments. On Thursday, February 22, the remaining 3750 employees were able to vote on the social collective agreement at a works meeting. According to IG Metall, approval was “gigantic” at 93.28 percent. Lars Desgranges, the first representative of IG Metall Völklingen, praised the social collective agreement that “our struggle of recent months and years has paid off.” However, the IG Metall leadership did not fight for every job together with the suppliers, as expected from many colleagues, but simply over the conditions under which jobs are destroyed. And, of course, the social collective agreement on clover is praised as “unique in Saarland and in the whole of Germany.” Even though Ford was forced to make concessions due to the combative spirit of the workforce, no amount of “unique” social collective agreement can replace the fight for every job. Because young people have irrevocably lost their jobs.
